John Aldous and Sarah Atkins married in Eye on 13th August 1822. John was a glazier and painter.
Their second daughter, Caroline Aldous, was born in 1826 in Eye, Suffolk. She was christened in Eye 19th March 1826. Caroline had three sisters: Maria, Jane, and Mary. Sarah was about twenty-seven when Caroline was born.
Caroline's elder sister, Maria, was born three years before Caroline in 1823 (christened 6th July). We think Maria featured prominently in Caroline's life and became in two ways connected with our family. Her younger sisters were Jane, who was born in 1827 (christened 31 Jan), and Mary, who was born in 1829 (christened 6 Oct). All of Caroline's three sisters were born in Eye.
By the time Caroline was eight, both her parents had died. She was looked after by an Uncle
(who already had a large family) and his second wife. |
