Henrietta Hirst was one of five daughters of David and Mary Hirst. She was born in Hadfield, Derbyshire in about 1860. Her sisters were: Alice Ann, Mary Ellen, Rachel and Emma Jane. Her sister, Alice Ann Hirst, married into the Aldous family when she married Frederick Aldous in 1882 at age twenty-five.
